Enterprising Ladakh is a flagship initiative of the Department of Higher Education, Administration of UT of Ladakh, implemented by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
This initiative aims to unlock the entrepreneurial potential of Ladakh by systematically identifying and mapping viable business opportunities that align with the region’s unique geographical, cultural, and economic landscape
The intervention focuses on two core components designed to empower aspiring entrepreneurs:
The Ladakh region flaunts the advantages of mineral affluence, forest richness, multiple tribes and their specific crafts, holy destinations, and several other territorial specificities that present opportunities for nurturing sustainable development and entrepreneurship. Job creation for semiskilled/skilled Youth is a significant challenge in the Union territory of Ladakh. Unemployment, particularly among the educated Youth of the UT, is becoming an increasing concern. Distress migration to urban centers to take up petty jobs is also high among the youths of Ladakh
A curated set of business ideas reflecting local resources, market demands, and innovative possibilities. Each profile is developed with an emphasis on practical feasibility and entrepreneurial relevance. A typical project profile includes:

Approximately 35% of the most promising project profiles will be developed into Detailed Project Reports. These DPRs include:

Profile of Applicant
Each DPR will be customized based on the applicant’s profile, ensuring it is suitable for submission to banks and financial institutions for funding support.
All project profiles and DPRs are organized into volumes, each containing 25 business profiles, making them easy to access and navigate. These resources are hosted on the Enterprising Ladakh Portal—a comprehensive digital platform that serves as a one-stop hub for entrepreneurial information and support.
Through this initiative, aspiring entrepreneurs gain immediate access to a rich library of pre-researched, data-driven business ideas backed by local insights—providing a strong foundation to launch or scale their ventures in Ladakh.
2. Environment Building & Entrepreneurship Awareness
Enterprising Ladakh is a flagship initiative of the Department of Higher Education, Administration of UT of Ladakh, implemented by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
This initiative aims to foster a vibrant and supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurship, with a special focus on engaging youth and local stakeholders across Ladakh. It is designed to inspire, encourage, and equip individuals to pursue entrepreneurial ventures through targeted programs. The intervention focuses on four core components to achieve this goal:
1. Stakeholder Sensitization
A structured 5-day program targeting 20 participants from sectors such as Higher Education, Basic Education, Industries, and Tourism. This activity sensitizes stakeholders to entrepreneurial opportunities for youth and students, fostering a collaborative network to promote entrepreneurship in Leh-Ladakh.
2. Entrepreneurship Awareness (Youth)
A series of 3-day programs with a batch size of 50, targeting 1500 participants every year. These sessions aim to raise awareness among youth about the startup ecosystem, providing insights into opportunities and skills needed to succeed as entrepreneurs across Ladakh.
3. Participation in Start-up Quizzes, Debates & Online Competitions (Youth)
Interactive online challenges designed to engage 600 youth participants. These competitions, organized via the Enterprising Ladakh Portal with results evaluated by a panel, keep young individuals curious and skilled in entrepreneurial concepts.
4. Developing a Cadre of Entrepreneur Trainers/Motivators
A 1-month training program targeting 20 participants to build a cadre of entrepreneurship trainers and motivators. These trainers will serve as key points of contact across the Union Territory, strengthening the regional ecosystem.
Through this initiative, aspiring entrepreneurs and youth gain immediate access to a rich array of awareness-building activities and trained mentors, providing a strong foundation to launch or enhance their ventures in Ladakh.
3. Training, Skilling & Research
Enterprising Ladakh is a flagship initiative of the Department of Higher Education, Administration of UT of Ladakh, implemented by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
This initiative aims to build a robust entrepreneurship ecosystem across the Union Territory of Ladakh through comprehensive training, skilling, and research programs. It is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to innovate and succeed as entrepreneurs. The intervention focuses on five core components to achieve this goal:
1. Certificate Courses in Entrepreneurship for Schools and Colleges
A 40-hour certification program targeting 200 participants from approximately 800 schools and the University of Ladakh’s 10 colleges, organized into four batches of 50. This course orients students toward innovation, design thinking, problem-solving, and opportunity recognition.
2. Special Programmes for Creating Micro-enterprises/Startups
A one-week program targeting 200 participants annually, organized into five batches of 40. This initiative focuses on developing and grooming micro-enterprises and startups, providing practical training to foster business creation.
3. Conceptualizing and Designing Tech-based Training Programmes on Emerging Technology/Opportunity/Disruptive Technology
The development of 100 programs with modular content that balances theory and hands-on practice. These programs address emerging technologies like AI, blockchain, IoT, and AR/VR, promoted and registered via the Enterprising Ladakh Portal to bridge the digital skills gap.
4. Exposure to New Product/Technology and Meets for New Entrepreneurs
An annual mega event targeting 300 participants, designed to showcase new products and technologies while facilitating networking and learning opportunities for new entrepreneurs.
5. Research Studies and Theme-based Projects
The conduct of 2 studies annually, engaging 500 respondents, to generate insights into local entrepreneurial needs. These studies include data analysis and comprehensive reports to inform future initiatives.
Through this initiative, aspiring entrepreneurs will gain immediate access to a wealth of educational, skill-building, and research resources, providing a strong foundation to innovate and grow their ventures in Ladakh.
4. Support to Existing Enterprises
Enterprising Ladakh is a flagship initiative of the Department of Higher Education, Administration of UT of Ladakh, implemented by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
This initiative aims to enhance the growth and sustainability of existing enterprises in Leh-Ladakh by providing targeted support across technology, market, and management dimensions. It is designed to strengthen local businesses and foster their expansion. The intervention focuses on three core components to achieve this goal:
1. Technology/Market/Management Support to Existing Enterprises
A special program targeting 50 participants, focusing on priority themes such as non-conventional energy sources, technology startups, food processing, engineering and metal work, infrastructure and construction-related technology, tourism, handlooms and handicrafts, and export-oriented programs. This support includes technology upgrades, market linkage strategies, and management improvements.
2. Thematic Workshops
Specialized training sessions targeting 50 participants, tailored to the priority themes mentioned above. These workshops aim to enhance skills and provide resources for business development and expansion in key sectors.
3. Study Visits for Entrepreneurs
An initiative targeting 20 participants, offering hands-on exposure to successful enterprises through industry visits. These visits provide insights into best practices and innovative techniques to inspire and guide existing entrepreneurs.
Through this initiative, existing entrepreneurs gain immediate access to tailored support, expert-led training, and exposure opportunities, providing a strong foundation to scale their ventures in Ladakh.

1. Development of the Enterprising Ladakh Portal
A comprehensive digital platform serving as a repository for all project-related activities, including project profiles, detailed project reports, training schedules, and updates on entrepreneurial initiatives. This portal offers an intuitive interface for users to explore and utilize resources effectively.
2. Development of the Dashboard
An interactive dashboard providing real-time tracking of program progress, effectiveness, and impact. It enables stakeholders to monitor key metrics, assess outcomes, and identify areas for future enhancement, enhancing decision-making and transparency.
Through this initiative, aspiring and existing entrepreneurs gain immediate access to a transparent and empowering digital space, providing a strong foundation to engage with and benefit from the ecosystem in Ladakh.
