Skill and Entrepreneurship are the prime movers of all economies. Entrepreneurs provide a source of income and employment for themselves, create jobs for others, produce new and innovative products and services, and drive greater upstream value- chain activities. Entrepreneurship coupled with demand-based skill development is the most effective solution to tackle unemployment.
The Ladakh region flaunts the advantages of mineral affluence, forest richness, multiple tribes and their specific crafts, holy destinations, and several other territorial specificities that present opportunities for nurturing sustainable development and entrepreneurship. Job creation for semiskilled/skilled Youth is a significant challenge in the Union territory of Ladakh. Unemployment, particularly among the educated Youth of the UT, is becoming an increasing concern. Distress migration to urban centers to take up petty jobs is also high among the youths of Ladakh
To scale new peaks in unleashing entrepreneurial talents and resources leading to promotion of diverse, inclusive and socially responsible enterprises for achieving speedy economic development in the region.
To foster an inclusive and vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Ladakh by nurturing native talent, instilling entrepreneurial values, and equipping individuals—especially youth and underserved communities—with the education, skills, and support needed to build sustainable enterprises. The ultimate goal is to establish Ladakh as a model region for grassroots innovation, enterprise-led development, and community prosperity.
Instil entrepreneurial culture amongst native entrepreneurs
Augment the supply of entrepreneurs through education, training and business advisory services.
Inculcate entrepreneurial values among educated youths and school dropouts to orient them to think in terms of entrepreneurship as a viable career option
Facilitate the introduction of entrepreneurship courses in the education system to wean away the youth from job-seeking and motivate them to become entrepreneurs and create jobs for others.
Create a conducive business environment for the emergence, sustenance and growth of Small, Micro and Medium enterprises by orienting academicians, bureaucrats, bankers and other officials of the administration.
Institutionalize entrepreneurship development by creating a cadre of competent trainer-motivators and business counsellors from other institutions, and organizations.
Conduct policy research related to industrialization and influence the policy-making process at the national and provincial levels to put entrepreneur-friendly policies.
Synergy of UT policies with Government of India’s Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Industrial Development, Infrastructure Development, Tribal Development, and MSME schemes.
Probable Establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of Ladakh (EDIL).
